The product
What is DataRooms?
DataRooms is an AI-powered virtual data room built for founders raising a round. Founders upload their pitch deck, financials and other documents, then share one tracked link per investor. Investors can ask the data room questions in plain language and get answers grounded in, and citing, the founder's documents at any hour. Founders see who opened what, which questions investors asked, and who is most engaged, so they know who to follow up with. Paid plans add an investor CRM and AI digests.
What is an AI data room?
An AI data room is a virtual data room with an assistant that has read your documents. Investors ask questions in plain language and get answers drawn from your files, with the source cited, instead of waiting for you to reply by email. DataRooms is an AI data room built specifically for startup fundraising. For the basics, read what a data room is.
How does the AI answer investor questions?
When you upload documents, DataRooms extracts and indexes their text. When an investor asks a question, it finds the most relevant passages in that data room's documents and writes an answer from them, citing the source file. If your documents don't cover the question, it says so clearly instead of guessing. You can also set the assistant's tone and opening message.
What file types can I upload?
PDF, Word (.doc and .docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xlsx), plain text and Markdown, HTML, and images (PNG, JPG, WebP and TIFF). Text in images and scanned PDF pages is read with OCR, so investors can ask about it too. Your pitch deck can be a PDF or a PowerPoint file.
How long does it take to set up a data room?
A few minutes. Create a room, upload your pitch deck and documents, and share a link. There is nothing to configure before your first investor can open it.
Who is DataRooms for?
Founders raising a pre-seed to Series B round who want investors to engage with their materials, and investment firms and accelerators that want to support many startups' raises from one place.
Investors and tracking
What can I see about investor activity?
Which investors opened your data room and when, which documents they looked at and for how long, the questions they asked the AI, and their device and location. Investors are scored by engagement (hot, warm or cold), so you know who to follow up with first.
Do investors need an account to open my data room?
No. Investors open the link you send them. You can ask them to enter their email address, a password, or both before they get in.
How do I control who can access my data room?
Create one tracked link per investor. For each link you can require an email address, set a password, make the link expire after 1 to 365 days, allow or block downloads, and switch the link off at any time. You also choose which documents investors can see.
Security and privacy
Is my data used to train AI models?
DataRooms does not train AI models on your documents. Answers are generated by the AI provider your data room is connected to. By default that is OpenAI through its API, and OpenAI does not use content sent through its API to train its models. If you connect a different provider, such as Anthropic, that provider's data terms apply. See our privacy policy.
Where is DataRooms based, and is it GDPR compliant?
DataRooms is a Belgian company based in Antwerp. We handle personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Belgian data protection law, as described in our privacy policy.
Is DataRooms secure enough for sharing documents with investors?
DataRooms replaces scattered email attachments with links you control: each investor gets their own link, which you can gate with an email address or password, set to expire, restrict from downloading, or switch off. Every open and question is logged, so you always know who has seen what.

Compared with other tools
How is DataRooms different from DocSend?
DocSend focuses on tracked document sharing and page-by-page analytics, with data rooms from its Advanced plan. DataRooms is built around an AI that answers investor questions from your documents, and shows you which questions each investor asked. DocSend offers NDA gating and watermarking, which DataRooms does not yet. Read the full DataRooms vs DocSend comparison.
Can I just use Google Drive as my data room?
You can, and many founders start there. But Google Drive can't tell you which investors opened your PDFs, gives investors no way to ask questions, and offers no investor-facing presentation. Read DataRooms vs Google Drive.
How is DataRooms different from a traditional virtual data room?
Traditional virtual data rooms like Datasite are built for M&A deal teams, with sales-led onboarding and enterprise pricing. DataRooms is built for startup fundraising: self-serve, free to start, with an AI that answers investor questions and engagement tracking that tells you who to follow up with.
